Leon Georg Neumann [ˈleːɔn ˈɡeːɔʁk ˈnɔʏman], born January 7th 2002 (?) as Berhnardt Zimmermann in Passau, Germany, is an elite mercenary for an American organization called Ammit. He is the organization’s most mysterious and also most successful employee.

Appearance

Leon is a 1.91 m tall male with dyed black hair, blue eyes and pale skin. He has multiple scars, including flaying scars on his back and a scar from an animal attack running from his cheek, over his lip and ending on the bridge of his nose. He has a puncture wound going through the center of his left palm and has scarred over, red knuckles on the same hand. His hair used to be naturally blonde. Most of his teeth have been replaced with sturdy but freakishly white experimental implants, as his normal teeth rotted out from medical neglect and absent diet.

His frame is very thin and lanky, but he has well-developed dry muscle on his limbs. His fingers are freakishly long.

He has large protruding eyes with dark circles around them, an elongated diamond face and thin lips with a cupid’s bow shape.

He dresses in a lot of collared shirts, patterned ties and dress pants, paired with either jackets or sweaters, all in neutral color except for an occasional colorful tie. The usual style is business casual or prep. When he puts on his “work” uniform, it consists of cargo pants, special sports shoes, a white shirt with a black tie and a specially tailored leather jacket with plenty of pockets for easy access to his tools. Whenever he’s at his regular job, he wears dark blue scrubs and gloves. There should always be a glove covering his scarred arm.

Personality

Leon’s personality is severely underdeveloped. While he is quite intelligent, he lacks a lot of information on the real world and has a lot of superstitions based on his cult upbringing. He believes in pseudo-medicine and cosmic energy, is susceptible to religious scams and religious panic. This makes him very hard to reason with or teach anything that clashes with his learned world view.

He has only started discovering that he can openly like and find fun in things, or just generally that he has the right to have fun. He is disillusioned with his choices and wishes he could just live a normal life, but also thinks that it’s too late to turn back and his hands are already too deeply covered in blood.

For someone in a profession like this, he still is sort of naive and awkward. After all, a lot of them are actually losers and not like the tough guys on TV. His genuine personality is a reminder of the fact that he hasn’t been allowed to adjust to society and has lived almost exclusively for one purpose.

The only instance when Leon is capable of seeming normal and making people like him is when he’s being disingenuous or wants something. He has developed a sort of self-preserving manipulation technique that lets him get what he wants from strangers. While he can chameleon himself with people he doesn’t particularly care about, he almost always fumbles with those that he genuinely wants a connection with, as his senses of compassion and empathy are stilted. He is incapable of understanding humor, social cues, or generally people’s enthusiasm in a lot of things. He’s also guilty of taking things literally, which is usually falsely attributed to him just being “Another German”.

Leon is so detached from his sense of self, that he fabricated a drag persona named Angela specifically to distance himself from what he looks and acts like and attempt to live a normal life as a different person.

Powers and Abilities

Fighting style

Leon, being someone from a community that prioritized ancient methods of life, has never learnt how to hold or fire a gun. His primary combat skills lie in a large variety of Chinese and military martial arts, archaic hunting methods and a variety of edged or blunt instruments.

Leon’s education in kinesiology plays a part in his combat skills - he knows exactly all of the nerves, muscles and pressure points, which allows him to deliver hits that disable his opponents. He may sometimes carry needles for that purpose.

His usual arsenal consists of a combat knife, a tactical whip, brass knuckles, a taser and sometimes even a miaodao.

He is profoundly trained in gymnastics and can develop a higher than average running speed.

The entire “berserker” concept comes into play through the fact that whenever he carries out a “job”, he is completely detached from his usual functions and is driven purely by instinct. If he has been provoked and has settled his focus on you, there is almost nothing that will snap him out of it until it’s over. The downside is that he goes limp or breaks down whenever he comes to his senses and sees the mess that he made.

Background

Leon was born into a radical neo-pagan cult in the rural area around Passau, a city in Lower Bavaria. He was the son of the cult leader, Adalbern (previously Adam) Zimmermann. At the time, no one had particularly acknowledged the paternal relation of the cult leader to the child, as he has proclaimed himself as immaterial and a mere image of God on Earth; this image of his could not be muddied by the idea of him having relations with a female member, even though it was a sort of an open secret - therefore, it was considered that miraculous conception was at play. However, Leon was not treated as a messiah, as one would expect: instead, due to the cult’s apocalyptic beliefs, he has been raised as a future defender of earth, god’s messenger and also spiritual scapegoat of the rest of the group, thus the “new-age berserker” title. Since a young age, he has been broken down mentally to achieve the spiritual connection that the cult wanted: he was held in the makeshift bunker that the cultists had carved from stone, with barely any food or water being brought in once a day through an opening. He was only taken out of the damp darkness for training and ceremonies. He was never taught to read, write or even properly speak; he had never communicated with other children and barely spoke with adults; his entire perceived purpose was violence that had to result in a self-sacrifice.

The cult’s plans have been first meddled with when Karen Lamprecht, a journalist specializing in cults, got wind of the community from locals and went down to research it in person. Of course, trying to maintain images, the cultists all got dressed and hid signs of suspicious activity. What they didn’t completely expect though, was for the crew to set the youngest members aside and question them. While they were instructed and threatened into lying, something in the child’s mind urged him to tell the truth, which he did. This was when the crew started attempting to set him free. Karen personally brought him necessities, like medication, food, hygienic care items and occasional toys for morale, which is something that Adalbern did not like. Suspiciously, the journalist went missing soon after.

As Leon started getting disenchanted in the cult’s doctrine and got a distant taste of normal life, he wasn’t ready to let it go: when all the neglect and violence became too much for him, all of the years which his father spent teaching him how to commit violence served the opposite purpose: one way or another, the “Star Father” was dead and his headquarters were on fire.

As Leon was attempting to escape the scene, his efforts were thwarted by the leader’s closest people: he ended up in a shallow grave by the side of the road, fighting for his life. Barely clinging on, he made an extraordinary effort to claw himself out and catch the attention of a passing car. Luckily for him, a family that was coming back from vacation in the middle of the night picked him up and brought him to the hospital. The doctors were stunned - not only did he survive wounds with a high percent of mortality, but also had signs of surviving multiple similar injuries in the past.

As it became clear that he couldn’t communicate properly and wasn’t registered anywhere, the newspapers gave him the moniker “Engelkind”, or “Angel Child” to allow readers to keep up with his story. This name came from his pale, almost translucent skin, white cult robe and extremely long blonde hair.

As the Angel Child story gained traction, a French medical research facility took note of his unusual tendencies and impressive resistance to pain and blood loss. They saw a profit in him - a seemingly inhumanly resistant youth that is fixated on violence and has already accepted the need for him to die. This was exactly what one of their most prolific investors wanted.

While every person outside of the cult wanted to see Leon be rehabilitated into society and live a happy life, authorities saw profits: as he was nearing physical recovery, a representative for the mysterious French research facility came to see him at the hospital. She presented herself as a specialist in behavioral issues and offered to help. As the facility’s shady machinations had a solid enough front, he ended up in the custody of a family that had a member as part of the staff. They monitored him and gave him selective behavioral treatment all throughout his remaining teenage years: as soon as he hit 18, he was sent to the USA under the pretense of him wanting to live a life away from prying eyes and find himself. This was, however, not true - he agreed to it specifically because he still did not know better and was lied to.

In the US, his documents were taken on by a certain Ivan Magomedov, a lawyer working under the company Ammit. Ammit was, on the surface, another company called Hephaistos Tech, run by the billionaire Lee Miller, son of Thomas Miller, who was previously a military tech CEO. Ammit recruited desperate unstable youth in hopes of fulfilling Lee’s Machiavellian schemes, which were, in their essence, petty power play over the population and eventually other people in authority. As Leon had no real family, no sense of self, barely any behavioral reeducation and no self-determined purpose in life, he was perfect for their lineup of hirees. He was to become a mercenary, repurposing his past education towards a new direction. He has not developed a lot of social or moral qualms with murder or violence - he only had a problem with it when it was towards children or animals. His freshly developed sense of compassion for the weak was taken advantage of, being used to flare up his heightened sense of justice and direct him towards violence.

While he is an exceptional fighter, fists still can’t outfire guns, so he was assigned a partner named Kazimierz, who had been a marksman for Ammit for the past year. His principal job is to clear the field, assist in long-distance combat and generally socially guide him, as he’s fluent in German and considered to be someone with violent thoughts. While they were purposefully matched up with the hopes of them not becoming particularly close but negatively influence each other to perpetuate their violent tendencies, they ended up relating to each other and have been secretly conspiring to get out of the country with the intention to escape their cruel and all-around dangerous job.

He has been living in East Village in NY, working a day job as a masseur at a hotel owned by Mr. Miller. He is used to gather intel from significant guests. He is also passing a kinesiology degree, paid by Ammit.
