Soren and Centurion
Crush them, Centurion!
Sorrento Agostino Santos, nicknamed Soren, is a participant of Crab 3, as headliner for Team Monomyth. Prior to his arrival, Soren was once part of the emperor’s bodyguards, the Frumentarii, an organization which fought the shadowy forces of the Fourth Collective on the planet of Oerth. He commanded the indestructible robot known as Centurion, which the Fourth Collective wanted to either bring back or destroy. Soren was an enemy of Maiden 4, participant of the previous tournament: due to the end of it, Soren’s world was destroyed by the Gamemaster, but he and Centurion were spared by the Narrator’s intervention, surviving for the next seven years until he was eventually chosen to be Monomyth’s headliner.
Appearance
Personality
Soren is heroic and kind, treating others with respect. However, he does not hesitate to attack or fight those he deems as dangerous or evil. He was respected both by his team and other teams for his power and experience, and in turn wished to use his wish to attempt to secure the best possible ending for all of them. He was resolute enough that he was willing to blow himself up with Centurion in order to achieve victory, and was likely fueled by the trauma of having his own world destroyed and having lived in its ruins for long, and his survivor guilt regarding the incident.
While Soren dwelled in the human majority Ryzal Empire, his frequent interactions with Elves, Orcs and other races of Oerth on his team allowed him to develop an unprejudiced view of interspecies relations. He also managed well some of the craziness of Crabs or even his own team members.
As the tournament progressed, Soren struggled with much inner turmoil and self-doubt between rounds, regarding how much he had to sacrifice in order to win and due to his guilt, although he defended his choices from Kome’s criticism and remained steadfast in the end.
While Centurion retains always a stoic face and cannot speak, he is shown to be clearly protective of Soren, and they consider each other friends.
Powers and Abilities
Soren has the normal traits of a human, relying on Centurion to do most of the fighting for him. However, it is to note he has training from his Empire and can carry himself in a battle. He shows as well tactical abilities in using Centurion as well as some combat skills and maneuverability in using the grappling pistol, understanding well he is often the target of the opponents that cannot hurt his friend titan instead. He is equipped with a standard issue pistol, and a small convertible car.
Soren enjoys photography and baking, which helps him relax.
As for Centurion, he is one of the biggest threats of the Tournament, being a giant adamantium titan that can only be damaged by divine intervention or similar material to himself, boasting unmatched strength as well as the ability to fly. Centurion was powerful enough to make short work of Tredecima’s city crushers, and dominated the fight against Lenard’s bat-mech. His power was such and so coveted that caused elements from outside the tournament to intercede and made both Lenard and Tredecima mald upon facing him.
On Round 3, Centurion got his detonator installed and activated with the help of Maiden 4 and Cassidy, allowing the Titan to unleash his full power. In this state he could use his jetpacks as nuclear warheads with power equal to a Tsar Bomb, high precision eye laser beams that could easily cut through concrete and city structures, high voltage bracelets, as well as an anti-magic field that both defended him against projectiles, the divine, and time or mental attacks, forcing organic matter as well to approach slowly or be destroyed. He could as well be authorized to self detonate himself, creating a blast big enough to easily destroy the planet he was in - the only downside of this transformation was that it forced Soren to stand away from Centurion in order to not be damaged by its body.
Background
History
Recruitment
Soren had wandered his world for seven years, where everyone had died due to the events of the previous tournament. There he only lived with Centurion and Kask (another Titan), and had named himself Emperor being the last inhabitant. Seeing however the state of destruction of his world and that even the last fruit trees were dying, he announced his abdication, left his camera to Kask and his car to Centurion, and proceeded to move away and take a suicide pill while lamenting how his life had turned into one of survival and hoping to see his family again. Before he could die however, the figure of the Narrator appeared and dragged him, happily commenting Soren had been invited to a certain tournament… Later then, a Nameless King appeared in the same dimension looking for Soren, who was already unconscious in the Narrator’s arms. The Narrator derided the King for fighting against the inevitability of the future and said that by laying down his arms he would come to find a grand brilliant future - but the King said he would always attempt to crush the future the Narrator intended. In the end, the Narrator took Soren and Centurion to the Gamemaster as per a previous accord, to make them participate in the Tournament.
Soren faced the trial of defeating Kevin like every other crab, engaging in a gun fight with the monster in a dilapidated building and positioning him so that Centurion could crush him with his fist. After that, Maiden 4 commented he had been slow to pass and how they should not be enemies in that situation, while Soren commented they had to clean up the mess of their world resulting from her losing. Later riding his car, he expressed his doubts regarding how he treated her and his decision to win to change things, although he feared how much he would have to sacrifice for it.
He met with M4 back in the Bucket, where she explained the events and they became necessary allies. Later he was introduced to his team - he recognized the Admiral Pizza from a previous crossover event, met Awesoman who explained to him his powers, then was blinded by Moses suddenly appearing. The prophet declared he found Centurion an offense to god, but since they were a team he would not act on it yet. Cassidy commented she had been abducted before and that they had to work together to go home, to which Adni agreed as he missed Muffin. In the end, Moses agreed with the Admiral that they would have to be a bit crazy to triumph, and they decided on the name Monomyth. Awesoman’s Narrator commented that was the start of their downfall (foreshadowing).
Later, Kome who had decided to spy on the other teams to gain some advantage was caught by Maiden 4, but before she was beaten up Soren interceded and instead invited her to train with them. So she did and they began conversing, with her criticizing him being so forgiving of her and doubting he would be able to bring his team to victory, but in the end appreciating that he could notice she was different to the rest of her team. After this they began meeting regularly.
Round 1
Soren and Centurion (won, entry) vs Alicade Tredecima (lost, entry) in The Two Towers. Match page: C3 R1 - Soren and Centurion vs Tredecima
In Centuria, Tredecima became one of the main leaders of the Horde, while Soren and Centurion became defenders of the Empire.
In Tredecima’s reality, the horde led by Tredecima attacked the two towers. Warning M-4 to retreat if she saw her, Soren was surprised to see Tredecima walking into the field alone, and sent Centurion to crush her - it was however a trap by the witch, who unleashed her giant golems on the robot. Centurion fought against the enemy, breaking one of the giant’s arms but being punched away. Waking up from fainting and being saved by M-4, Soren prepared to plan but both were caught by Tredecima suddenly appearing there. Maiden 4 attempted to distract the witch, but was easily paralyzed, and Soren followed through, his attempts at contacting Centurion fruitless. Tredecima then ripped the suit off Maiden 4, planning to examine and study its and her functioning. She captured Centurion, and revealed her plan - to link the imperial towers to the World Trade Center ones with her magic, causing them all to inevitably collapse. Assured of her victory, Tredecima bid farewell to Soren.
In Soren’s canon reality, he watched a plane go through the World Trade Center with horror as he read the news about the Admiral defeating Sae. Contacted by a hiding Tredecima, she gloated he would see fall the empire towers as well and see his empire fall twice, referencing the end of the previous tournament. Tredecima marched her City Crusher towards the Capital as Crabs and citizens watched in horror, many of the citizens parallel versions of people from Soren’s world. In its destructive advance, Tredecima even killed the Janitor’s loyal buffoon, who died heroically pushing him out of danger. Citycrusher easily destroyed the barrier around the city, but as she attempted to destroy the tower and crush the alternate Ruth’s vain defiance, she was stopped right in time by Centurion. With Soren now back, he commanded Centurion to destroy Tredecima’s golem - the titan burst his enemy open and broke inside, overcoming her defenses and finishing the witch with a hammer double punch.
After the battle of Centuria ended, Monomyth and the other Empire faction Crabs were celebrated as heroes and Soren invited to stay, an offer he refused. He later took pictures with his team and was cheered up by Moses and the Admiral, who saw he looked deep in thought. Awesoman commented to him he feared the incoming opponents Adni would have to face and Soren thanked M4 for their help towards their team, who had secured first place after Round 1. Moved, Maiden 4 invited him to her 32nd birthday, much to Soren’s surprise, to which she noted she would like if he baked something for her birthday. Cassidy chimed in to explain there was a time dilation effect in CRAB, and Soren confessed seeing Centuria had made him miss his friends and world - but the girl commented it was better to accept their possible defeat given that he already had first hand experience of the possibility of losing. As he opened the door to leave, Soren found himself face to face with Tredecima, who demanded to know how he had beaten her. Maiden 4 grabbed the witch, allowing him to escape. Seeking to relax his mind, he began to photograph the wild life of Centuria, casually meeting Kome again there. They spoke of their respective rounds and Kome learned his wish, noting that it presented a life with no challenges, but Soren noted he wanted them to have challenges, just to overcome them. In the end, she still noted she did not approve of the wish or for it to be spent on other Crabs, and that in the end they would have to see which of their wills triumphed. Kome warned him to better use the time he had remaining not just moping about what he had lost, and teleported away, letting Soren sadly say thanks for the tip.
Round 2
Lenard (won, entry) vs Soren and Centurion (lost, entry) in Mecha. Match page: C3 R2 - Lenard vs Soren and Centurion
In Japan, Lenard took on the Kemono potion, becoming human, while Soren took the age elixir becoming a young boy again.
In Soren’s reality, young Soren ventured in the snowy Mount Fuji, following a letter from Lenard who had captured Maiden 4. From under the snow then Lenard drew the cannon of his Bat-Mech (but the lever broke) and began firing. However, Centurion protected Soren on time and when the Bat-Mech emerged and began firing, the titan kept taking the hits with no damage and advancing. Intimidated with Centurion towering in front of him, Lenard dropped Maiden 4 and ran away, flying in jet form - however, Centurion simply threw a huge rock at him. Panicked, he began fidgeting with controls, but the shoddy mech just broke and the rock terminated him, with Maiden 4 waking up in the end next to Soren.
In Lenard’s canon reality, Lenard was revising his schematics for the Bat-Mech, and despairing out loud about how Centurion was indestructible due to being made of Adamantium. Cyrus found however Adamantium on Crabmazon, and the bat began building his mech. Upon seeing it, only Stitch was impressed, while Cyrus commented they were fucking dead. Later then the mecha fighting began, with “Lenard” daring Centurion who tore his opponent’s arm and punched his chest, seemingly going through it. The mech then enveloped the whole area in darkness, and used it to scratch Centurion by surprise, who then was commanded by Soren to fly outside of the darkness area of effect (as someone approached). Centurion did so, but the Bat-Mech jumped and landed on his back, and pierced one of his jets with his own adamantium claws, creating a huge explosion that threw both into the snow below. As Centurion showed to be still undamaged and ready to destroy his opponent, Lenard then appeared where Soren was aiming a gun at him and demanding for him to quit the match. It would later be explained the Bat-Mech was actually being piloted by Cyrus or rather a shadow of Cyrus made by Z. Lenard then spoke in the phone with Stitch, commenting the plan had worked and then wondering what was ichigai even about as he had not put any thought on it.
After the round ended, Soren thanked Cassidy for helping in the repairs of Centurion. She invited him to a party Brat Pack was doing along with other teams, but Soren noted he had other plans. Lying on Centurion then alone, Soren noted how he missed his love interest Taki whom he could discuss anything with and how deep down he knew they would not be returning home. He decided then to forget about her and threw her picture, which was found by a shocked Maiden 4. Later as he baked the cake for Maiden 4’s birthday, Soren detected Sack attempting to hack his watch, and got in contact with Kome, who invited him to their party as well. Conflicted about what to do, he noted he was jealous of Centurion for not having to make such choices, and as both girls waited for him he got in his car and began driving.
In the end, he arrived to the party, where he and Kome conversed. Kome revealed her wish for ultimate power, which he noted amused was a bit selfish and was worse than finding common ground, but she noted the fight for victory was how society worked. She wondered why he wouldn’t use Centurion to impose his power more, and he noted that if he did, more enemies would be after him. Goading him to be harsher with opponents, Soren noted that at least there was some truth to her arguments as he had lost the previous round against Lenard. He had then to leave for the birthday, and she noted with a smile at the end of the tournament he would have to accept her superiority - and as a final gift, held his hand and teleported him to Maiden 4. When he arrived, Maiden 4 had a cute outfit given to her by Pauline and they had a private party, where she thanked him for taking care of Centurion whom she considered a brother and for doing his best. More motivated, Soren said he would not fail, and she noted she had met others as determined as him who had, and that she had made peace with the idea that they could be trapped in the Bucket forever once again. Maiden 4 changed then her form to that of Taki, Soren’s love interest from his world, in order to better help him adapt, as a way to apologize for her failure bringing him there, but he noted as well that it had been him taking her watch years ago and having Centurion which kickstarted their predicaments. Saying they were both even then, they held hands as the candlelight extinguished and THEY FUCKED, THEY ABSOLUTELY FUCKED.
Before the final round began then, Maiden 4 gave Soren a piece of Element F, the last component needed to truly activate Centurion which she had been holding out to for years. Centurion then became fully operational as a god-killing machine.
Round 3
Soren and Centurion (won, entry) vs Unúriel Ocapon (lost, entry). Match page: C3 R3 - Soren and Centurion vs Ocapon
In Ocapon’s reality, Ocapon had gathered from the heavily charged magical air around her an incredible supply of orbs to wield in combat. Meanwhile, Soren, Kome and Cassidy were enjoying icecream and talking, with Kome underestimating the elf due to her not showing much on the tournament - but Cassidy argued there was a reason why Ocapon had been chosen as a headliner and that she was never seen not studying. Kome replied there were limits to what knowledge could help one overcome. Ocapon was then seen later training with Wanzu, and explaining she would convert all her remaining mana into kinetic energy through her watch, allowing her to stop the physical and magical on their tracks, while Soren spoke with Awesoman who warned him to not overestimate the other headliner. Ocapon then explains her strategy against Centurion’s many abilities: to saturate the barrier with orbs in physical form and then turning them magic causing it to repel them in all directions destroying itself, to destroy the bolts generating electrical currents, and to use the natural openings on Centurion’s laser-eye beams to destroy his view from the inside and blind him. The battle then later began, Soren apologizing they would have to do this and promising Ocapon he would let her study Centurion afterwards. Ocapon was thrilled, and the fight began with Centurion smashing rocks against her, then her flying up and destroying her thunder add-ons, then dodging his eye lasers and blinding him. Desperate, Soren commanded Centurion to launch the Emperor of All Bombs, a massive blast attack using his back-missiles. However, all the heat released caused, as Ocapon planned, Soren’s watch to be destroyed. Refusing to lose, Soren then commanded Centurion to self destruct - though Ocapon tried to stop it, ultimately both the hero and his robot died. His grave is seen attended by Cassidy and Ocapon afterwards.
In an alternate reality of Ocapon, Soren survived, though Centurion was destroyed. Mad at the random ruling and life-wasting of the tournament, she challenged the Gamemaster himself, and used his rules against him and her anti-matter marbles to trap him into a recursive Bucket.
In Soren’s canon reality, Ocapon recalled her time with Taya and her other friend adventuring, how I missed them, and the experiences she had in CRAB she would like to share with them, thinking she would not take their time with them granted (common elf L) and treasure their time together. In Soren’s destroyed world, a Mighty King refused to see worlds destroyed by the tournament and, using his sword to cut through dimensions, came into the Bucket, hoping to see Soren win and rewrite the destruction of his world. Meanwhile, Cassidy did the last repairs on Centurion and Monomyth wished Soren good luck in his battle. In the Bucket, the fight was about to begin and, on the upper stages watching, the King and Wanzu argued who would be the ultimate winner of it. As Soren approached the arena, he encountered Maiden 4 and Kome, who were there to wish him luck. Kome joked (citation needed) she would turn him into a dog, and gave him a kiss of appreciation. Maiden 4’s gift was to paint a King of Spade symbol on Soren’s arm, naming him now a member of the Blast Rites. Before they split, she asked him if they would go back to being enemies after the tournament ended. Soren responded they would make up for those twelve lost years, and they held hands, before Maiden 4 asked Centurion to protect him and left. Now alone, Soren called Centurion his best friend and they both entered the stage. Meanwhile in her room reading, Ocapon was visited by John the Silent, an enemy of Soren and Centurion, from a parallel world that was not destroyed during the previous tournament. John revealed he had taken Ocapon’s friends as hostages and blackmailed her to do something for him during the match. Back in the arena, the King sensed the arrival of the one who dictated Soren’s world fate, the Narrator, his enemy. The Gamemaster stopped them from fighting by warping the King’s sword, and ultimately they sat to see the match as Ocapon finally entered the arena. The battle began, with Ocapon activating her watch, setting orbs all around the field and exploding them into a continuous burst of magical energy surrounding the titan. Soren erased the fire with a barrier, and Ocapon turned the arena into spikes he launched at them, but Centurion deflected them with his fists. Ocapon then summoned a powerful hurricane, blowing Soren off his friend, but Soren used the watch’s gadget to tie himself and Centurion grabbed him. Now as Centurion released lightning, Ocapon decided to use her Anti-matter Marble, while Centurion activated his God-Mode, capable of destroying beings such as even the Narrator. Centurion grabbed the marble and contained it, flying upwards and resulting on a massive explosion. Now alone, Ocapon apologized to Soren for Centurion’s death, but he showed her the titan was still alive - having held onto the walls of the Bucket before sending the marble upwards. Soren then shot Ocapon’s watch out of her hand, and Centurion grabbed her, ready to ring her out. As they prepared to do so, Soren noticed the trap and in panic told Centurion to drop the elf and move to John, but the falling Ocapon aimed a modified, soul-erasing marble given to her by John the Silent, and fired it striking Soren. To the panic and sadness of the onlookers, Soren fell more than dead and Centurion deactivated, falling still. The Narrator and John triumphantly left, as a sad and regretful Ocapon closed Soren’s eyes.
After Crab 3
After Brat Pack’s victory, Soren was eventually revived after about “a year” in Bratheon’s realm by Kome, who had become a God Empress. She told him what had transpired and how Crabs had returned to their lives, before sending him back to a revitalized Oerth prior to its destruction, allowed to ascend to a position at Kome’s side when his natural life was over. Soren ended up meeting the revived Taki there.
He has fathered two sons: Kota (Maiden 4) and Ken (Kome).
Relationships
Life Within CRAB
He was respected by his team, and was good friends with Awesoman, whose attempts at hooking up he supported (except Pe’le whom Soren considered unfixable). He knew the Admiral from beforehand and was also friendly with Cassidy who worked as her technician for repairing Centurion.
He lived rent free in both Tredecima and Lenard’s heads.
Soren frequently met with Kome, who had a crush on him during the tournament, and they often discussed their wishes - in the end, she revived him after his sacrifice. She fathered a kid with a future version of her, named Ken.
He had also a slowly built romantic relationship with his former arch enemy and previous Crab competitor Maiden 4, with whom he also fathered a child, Kota.
It is said he participated in secret Dungeons and Dragons sessions run by the Gamemaster alongside other Crabs like Bernard.
