Carolyn Sherman-Mathers is a participant of Crab 2, as the headliner and leader of Team Eldritch. A private detective with a dark past in a quest to find out about her missing husband, she is recognizable for the hole in her face which leads to a vast, universe-shaped expanse.
Appearance
Personality
In terms of personality, Carolyn can be succinctly described as “a detective noir novel protagonist stereotype”. She is rough, cynical, and often acts emotionally detached when it comes to her work, and she is not beyond using violent and painful options when necessary. Coupled with her coarse attitude, her (lack of a) face, and her tall and lanky physique often makes her appear intimidating to others. But her hard-boiled exterior obscures a tender, warmer side she exposes only to her friends and her family. She cares deeply for her loved ones, and would often sacrifice her own spare time to help them out in however way she can. After the strange and sudden disappearance of her husband, William Mathers, Carolyn slowly began to spiral down towards depression, spending the last 10 years searching and investigating his disappearance to no avail due to the lack of any trace or evidence of his fate as if he never existed. Despite that, she still pushes on, clinging on to what little bit of hope she has in the hopes that, if nothing else, her efforts would lead to some closure.
Post-/CRAB2/, Carolyn finally got some closure from her encounter beyond the grave. However, following the destruction of her world with Team Chad’s victory, she began to develop a hatred towards Sgt. Chadwick when he gained the power of the Gamemaster. Her hatred soon tempered and transformed into a monstrous zeal as she believes that Chadwick’s defeat would restore all the worlds destroyed and the lives lost from his wish. With death being impermanent and hope just slightly beyond arm’s reach, Carolyn becomes a lot more reckless and her actions more violent, especially with the influence of the wordless emotions of the many dead souls attached to the Tournament. She is a lot more willing to employ more destructive methods to achieve her goals, her belief justified by the fact that once Chadwick is toppled and the Gamemaster’s power in kinder hands, then all shall be resolved.
Powers and Abilities
Carolyn is a sharpshooter with excellent spatial sense and hand-eye coordination. She is trained in handling multiple weapons ranging from knives and pistols to submachine guns and assault rifles, and she has some knowledge in making improvised explosives. While she is physically weak, she makes up for her deficit with her almost inhuman aim, capable of reliably hitting bullseye on multiple moving targets from 50 meters away even when in combat situations 80% of the time.
The hole in her face leads to a seemingly infinite void of unknown dimensions. Through this hole she eats, drinks, breathes, and sees, though she seems to be capable of locking things in place in her face such that water becomes blocked and cigarettes stay in place. Anything that falls into the hole could not be recovered and are considered to be lost. Curiously, no matter what falls down through her face-hole, it doesn’t seem to affect her negatively. How it works is a mystery even Carolyn herself does not completely understand.
Post-/CRAB2/, she became partially fused with the form of an instance of her from another time where she gained the powers of a Lurker, an entity that intermediates between the living and the dead. The souls of the damned now intermix with the void within her, giving them physical forms and manifesting them as material entities made of sludge so dark that neither matter nor light can escape from it. She is capable of commanding these souls to some degree, and even coat herself in it. The sludge itself is a portal that leads into her void, and only beings capable of traversing between dimensions can escape its grasp.

Carolyn investigates a certain building, only to be abducted by the Gamemaster. She is in.
Round 1
Chadwick (won, entry, part 2) vs Carolyn (lost, entry, part 2) in Shooting. Match page: C2 R1 - Chadwick vs Carolyn
Competing in a shooting match where Chadwick used Fred as a target, he provoked Carolyn verbally by talking about even her daughter and ultimately was hit by her, but showed his superiority in shooting.
Round 2
Balkari (won, entry) vs Carolyn (lost, entry) in Drinking. Match page: C2 R2 - Balkari vs Carolyn
Balkari (de-aged to her human self) faced Carolyn (aged to her milf self) in a drinking contest. In Carolyn’s timeline, Balkari inevitably lost to Carolyn’s infinite facehole. In Balkari’s canon timeline, Carolyn pretended to be defeated in order to give the young girl the victory and stopping her from drinking. It was later revealed Bear had only been serving her apple juice. Both realities coincided in Carolyn carrying an asleep Balkari away.

In Chuckson’s reality, he faced Carolyn in her regular and void forms and sacrificed himself to release her from her suffering. Keeping it short until I replay it.
In Carolyn’s canon reality, Carolyn got warped by her powers, and Chuckson sacrificed himself one last time to save her with William Lurker’s help.
After Crab 2
Although in the end she survived her meltdown, it was only to discover the Chads had won and Chad locked her into Eternal Crab, where everyone was forced to compete in tournaments non-stop. Carolyn lived years like that then, thoroughly depressed by her situation. Being so, she had children with several Crabs as only vice got her mind distracted.
During the events of Crab 3, she met the Rebels in Nuremberg and finally decided to come out of her haze and help them. So she joined the battle against the Gamemaster and Berbie, hiding inside Oji-san to try to use her powers against the enemy. However the attempt failed, and Overkill lost his life covering for her. Ultimately however, Berbie sacrificed his own life to return all of the trapped Crabs back to their worlds, and Carolyn lost her memories of her time trapped and returned to her regular life, looking for her husband.

She was a stern but good leader and almost got her team to victory in the end.
Got SEXOOOOO with a lot of Crabs. Including Janitor, Kevin, Vivian, Ormand, Balkari, Vormio, etc. Multiple Crab Child spawns were created then and now they rule their own little leftover dimension.
Jed kept trying to stick his arm into her facehole.

Trivia
- Carolyn was banned from participating in multiple drinking contests in her region due to her almost limitless drinking capacity. It is theorized that, given enough time, Carolyn could potentially drain all the ocean water on Earth if she were to lie down on the sea floor. When asked about this, she made no comments.
- She cannot actually become intoxicated nor can she suffer from any lung cancer as a result of her smoking habit due to the nature of the void. She does them simply because she likes the sensations they give her.
- William actually disappeared in the year of 2009 on the date of their 13th Anniversary. Given the complete lack of evidence or even trails of his existence, Carolyn believes that something must have happened to him. Suffice to say, it really did make a dent in her self-esteem.
- Her favourite kind of food is Chinese takeout. She also appreciates spicy flavours despite having no tongue for the capsaicin to interact with.
- Carolyn’s character as she currently exists came about within a mere week before the /CRAB2/ Tournament began. As an aside, her initials actually spell out CSM, as a particularly oblique reference to Chainsaw Man.
