Go ahead. Catch me, if you can.

Wietse is a participant of Crab 3, as part of the (B)Rat Pack. This young punk is hotheaded, high-spirited and ready to do whatever he likes to do.

Appearance

Personality

Wietse is a teenager who often makes decisions based on his emotions rather than with reason. He is wily, quick-witted and a stubborn brat - aspects he carries to help him go through life in the isolated Friesland. Part of a family that were farmers for generations, Wietse does not wish to live in such mundanity and actively seeks out excitement, sometimes to his detriment.

While often heated and ready to be vengeful if he feels wronged, Wietse also has that passion for the people he cares for. When it matters, he will decide to be reasonable and think for solutions for everyone’s betterment. His passion often manages to help people rally behind him and support him too.

Powers and Abilities

While being just a teenager, Wietse has some strength due to his farmboy background. So while he may be outclassed by many, he can still give any human-level some hell.

Outside of strength, Wietse’s musical artistry is his biggest power. In R2, he even managed to outdo a magician like Dizzy. Guitars, keyboards and even singing. It’s something he takes much pride in as well.

For the final round, Wietse brought with himself several implements from the Nuremberg prisons to aid him in his hopeless battle against Tredecima. Those include Chuckson’s trusty cast iron pan, some small Vivian sprouts, and, more important of all, Bernard’s Zerozooka.

Background

History

Round 1

Wietse Johannes Willemsma (lost, entry) vs Awesoman (won, entry) in The Rejected Painter From Beyond. Match page: C3 R1 - Wietse vs Awesoman

In Centuria, Wietse was begrudgingly made an agent of the Forest Alliance, while Awesoman went to serve the Empire like most of his team.

In Wietse’s reality, Wietse had been spending the last week in Vienna, helping Hitler enter art school, a mission he found bothersome at the least. It had turned out that the Empire wanted to isekai Hitler into Centuria to aid them in the war, so the Forest Alliance had chosen him to stop this, opening a portal and throwing him back to the past, back to the past Samurai Jack before Hitler turned evil. To do so, Wietse had to help Hitler enter the art academy, for which he even brought Loomis with him, but found that Hitler just sucked and would spend the day sleeping, or changing ideas continuously and dropping them, or drawing without any guidance. By day five, Wietse resorted to beating Hitler up in order to force him to practice fundamentals. He recognized that in the end, he saw a bit of himself in Hitler: an artist struggling to “make it”. On the day of the entrance exam, Wietse cheered for Hitler, when Awesoman broke from the roof, and threatened to kill Hitler. Wietse told the to-be-dictator to run to his admission exam, and asked the hero to not kill Hitler, to which Awesoman asked if Wietse was insane since that was literally Hitler. He admitted that after those seven days of knowing the guy, perhaps he wanted to see Hitler achieve his dreams, making Awesoman ask if he meant the Holocaust (he meant the artistic dreams). As the arguing got louder, they both prepared to fight… Before Awesoman deflated and called the mission stupid. They both sat down then and conversed about the mission and how neither liked it, and how the conflict was inevitable due to the Empire needing to rely on coal and wood from the Forest as a source of energy. Awesoman then had an idea, which he told the teenager, and both shook hands and the hero flew away. Spying at the exam door through the keyhole, Wietse saw Hitler had been admitted. He was warped then back to Centuria before he could congratulate the Austrian, thinking how grateful he felt to Hitler to make him realize they could all make it (on Centuria, he later discovered they developed nuclear bombs).

In Awesoman’s canon reality, he was sent by a rude Imperial officer to find a replacement general for the Empire, an artist from another world, and carried a scroll with instructions he was decreed to only open once he was there by the scryers. He was sucked then to the past in Austria, though he mentioned he didn’t know any Austrian painters. The Narrator replied he might know this one. Opening the scroll he was baffled to see his target to recruit was meant to be Hitler, and he questioned the wisdom of both the Gamemaster and the Imperial generals given that Hitler had lost his war. He ultimately decided he would instead kill Hitler to save his future victims, reasoning the chances to win the tourney were slim anyways and even if he deleted himself, he would get deleted anyways if his team lost. He flew then to the academy of arts, where Wietse was hanging with Hitler, and burst through the ceiling declaring his intention to kill the dictator, who recognized him as the ubermensch. Wietse pleaded with the hero to not kill Hitler. In the end, grabbed by the clothes, he asked Awesoman if he wouldn’t take a chance to stop Hitler without killing him. Awesoman ended up admitting that he would. They both then conversed and talked shit about how stupid the mission was, and wondered if there was any way to make peace between their factions, with Wietse stating as long as the Empire used fuel from the Forest as energy it would be impossible. Hearing this, Awesoman got an idea and bid Wietse good luck before flying away. As the imperial grand wizard noticed the time portal shifting, Awesoman returned and punched him unconscious telling him his mission sucked. He had brought instead of Hitler, Oppenheimer from Los Alamos, who quickly acquainted himself with the imperial dwarves to teach them about nuclear energy. The Narrator questioned why Awesoman did not bring Enrico Fermi, and the hero started fearing Oppenheimer would build a bomb, which the Narrator confirmed the man would absolutely do.

Wietse was seen later comforting his team after their losses or bad experiences, and later celebrating a bender with them despite their bad showing to lift their spirits.

Round 2

Wietse Johannes Willemsma (won) vs Dizzy (lost, entry) in Visual Kei. Match page: C3 R2 - Wietse vs Dizzy

Dizzy drank the aging potion, while Wietse drank the gender potion.

In Dizzy’s reality, she prepared to play with Wietse. She requested items from several characters: Sentimia’s hair as guitar strings, a stave from Tripp’s cannabis tree for her guitar, and something from Senjata from Overkill, whom she dated. She asked Ocapon to build her guitar. With the other Dizzies helping them set the stage, Dizzy encountered Wietse and told her it was his fate to be a musician, not hers, and that she would help him in every way she could.

In Wietse’s canon reality, it continued from Dizzy’s own, as the two Crabs prepared to play, Dizzy helping to adjust Wietse’s corset and giving each other the last touches. They discussed the idea of Dizzy helping Wietse in his quest as a “warrior”, something he always dreamed to be as a kid, with the witch saying his guitar was his sword, which Wietse liked. Ready then, both played their song in front of an audience of many, with several Crabs cheering them on among the crowd.

After Round 2, the teenager decided to settle the score with Berbie, knowing the relationship his old self had with the bird. As such, he temporarily left the team, telling Sack to leave Kome in charge and asking for Evelin’s assistance in order to attack the Nuremberg fortress. There they battled through the gnomes and ultimately reunited and released Awesoman and Bernard - but each of them were ultimately dragged to their matches.

Round 3

Alicade Tredecima (lost, entry) vs Wietse Johannes Willemsma (won, entry). Match page: C3 R3 - Tredecima vs Wietse

In Tredecima’s reality, Wietse was despairing pre-match about the impossible battle ahead, when he was called. He packed then the weapons he got from Nuremberg. The moment the battle started, he shot the Zero Bazooka to his enemy, seemingly completely erasing her. Everyone then clapped - except, he then woke up to see himself holding Kome’s severed head. Wietse began to experience them murdering his entire team and burning their base, as Tredecima spoke to him, telling him how it was his selfish desire to revenge against Berbie which had pushed the team to this end, and Evelin as well, and calling Wietse rotten. She then invited Wietse to forget about the world that treated him so wrongly, and dance with his love. Seeing a vision of his true love from his world, Wietse began dancing - but in reality, he danced in the stage with Tredecima, trapped in a trance, both of them dancing and dancing, twelve other figures surrounding them and clapping. Tredecima finished by kissing Wietse, who fainted. After this, Tredecima began interrogating Wietse in his mind: who was he, how did he feel, what did he wish for the tournament - but as she repeated the questions, he forgot more and more of who he was. As the question seemingly endlessly repeated, Wietse grew silent, then responded they wished to see their father, and that they were Tredecima. Awaking as yet another Tredecima, the once Wietse was welcomed to the fold.

In Wietse’s canon reality, Wietse reminisced, Berbie wishing him good luck before his battle, his rebellion allies being concerned for him, and Kome being mad at Wietse for abandoning the team and joining the rebellion, causing the GM to give him that match as a punishment and making them all Tredecima’s targets. Wietse marched into the arena, the spectator sites almost deserted. Intimidated by Tredecima, Wietse began the battle by shooting the zerozooka, destroying Tredecima. Everyone celebrated, Wietse happy that he would finally be able to wish for his father to revive, before remembering his father was still alive. Waking up from a trance, Tredecima and Wietse danced, upon seeing this Kome told the Brats to leave to not see the incoming execution. Wietse pushed the empress back but upon trying to hit Tredecima he instead hit himself, in order to dispel another attempt of the witch to influence his mind. Tredecima kept invading Wietse’s thoughts, showing him even that she was about to attack his team. Desperate, Wietse recalled the words of his own father about finding a way to win his battles… except he soon saw his father as Alicade, Tredecima’s own father. Waking up in panic, he found himself at the Harvest Festival with his love, Monique, the tournament having been apparently a dream. She invited him to dance and so they did, and through the dance, Tredecima slowly absorbed and deleted Wietse’s own ego, replacing it with her own. However, before everything was lost, a memory of Wietse’s own future lost son materialized in his mind, pushing back against her control. His son told him he believed in him and to push back, and the shackles of Tredecima began deteriorating, releasing Wietse who struggled for control against a Tredecima full of disbelief at their filial bond being strong enough to do this in comparison to her own. Both Wietse and Tredecima reached for control, but ultimately he won and managed to push his dancing partner off the arena - although changed and deformed into a semi-Tredecima form, Wietse obtained victory, and was held by his fellow rebels. Defeated, Tredecima threatened she would capture and examine Wietse, interested in his will, but he challenged her to catch him first, as he was not alone. A smiling but sour Tredecima admitted her defeat for now.

After Crab 3

After Brat Pack won, Wietse became the God of Life, gaining a new look and undoing the Tredecimacization done upon him. The parts of his body turned into Tredecima were eventually subdued and cut off but still attached to his mind like a seething mindworm. Wietse would set out to help those who wished for his help, residing in the Bratheon and having Dizzy be his righthand.

He is seen in Kome’s epilogue, sitting in his realm listening to Wanzu’s advice while his Devil’s Advocate nags on, later on happily celebrating the anniversary of the Brats’ victory alongside the rest of his team.

What Wietse would work further on, will be revealed later on in his epilogue.

He has fathered one daughter: Ophelia (Evelin).

Relationships

Life Within CRAB

Wietse enjoyed his time with his team in the CRAB world, although he did bicker a lot with Kome over who was the true leader of the team.

After his rounds, he managed to befriend his former opponents Awesoman and Dizzy. Wietse would often spend his time either practicing his guitar or drinking booze.

After the Freakers started their rebellion, Wietse temporarily left his team and decided to take Berbie on - haunted by feelings and memories of his older self going through his mind. Somehow, he felt he needed to put Berbie down.

Trivia

  • This Wietse is indeed the younger version of the commentator from CRAB 1 and CRAB 2.
  • Wietse thinks Sack is the best character of CRAB and that’s a fact.
  • Wietse is a big history nerd, loving chivalry stories of knights. His band Sindala is named after a wizard in a chivalry drama series of the 60s.
  • By preventing Hitler’s rise, Wietse would have risked his own existence as the Second World War is what caused his parents to end up together. But again, as he did not disappear afterwards, it seems they still ended up together regardless.
  • Through his older self, Wietse is also the biological father of Isaac and Bethany, children born from Carolyn.
  • Wietse and Evelin have reportedly slept together in genderbent form. Neither person confirms this fact and neither understand where Ophelia’s egg came from.
  • Wietse’s initial wish was for everyone to return home safely and learning from the experience - however his suffering during the tournament made him ultimately agree with Kome’s modified wish.
